Frequently asked questions.

Do I have to volunteer every month?

Nope! We volunteer the second Saturday of every month and are happy to have you when your schedule works out. You can also volunteer without attending the Afterjawn - you don’t have to attend both!

How do I find out about upcoming events?

We’re so glad you asked - you can check the website, follow us on Instagram (@vu_phl), follow our Eventbrite page to stay updated, or sign up to receive our newsletters.

Is VU PHL free?

Volunteering on second Saturdays is free.

The Afterjawns at bars or restaurants are pay-what-you-eat/drink. Sometimes we get drink specials from our generous Afterjawn partners!

Can I just show up to second Saturdays?

We kindly ask that you register through our Eventbrite, many of our events have space limitations.

How does my nonprofit become a second Saturday partner?

Howdy (new) partner! Please email our partnerships team at vupartnerships@gmail.com to get the conversation started.

The Eventbrite says it’s sold out or at capacity, what should I do?

Please join our waitlist! We often have cancellations and if space opens up, you will be notified.

What if I can no longer make it to the second Saturday I signed up for?

You have two options: you can either cancel your registration through Eventbrite or email our Director of Volunteer Relations at volunteeringuntappedphl@gmail.com

When we donate to VU PHL, what are we supporting?

Thank you for your support! You’re helping us fund volunteer projects, marketing initiatives, DEI initiatives, and support volunteer incentives like welcome snacks & coffee or supplement celebratory drinks at the Afterjawn.

How does the VU PHL Board work and can anyone join?

The VU PHL Board is volunteer-run by a group of folks committed to improving volunteerism in Philadelphia. We have one 1-hour monthly board meeting over Zoom and one 30-minute pre-second Saturday check in meeting over Zoom, outside of individual position tasks and initiatives. Our Board succeeds because we all work together towards a common goal and strengthen each other.

Board members are expected to attend 75% of monthly meetings & second Saturday events, have great communication & time management skills, and show interest in volunteerism with VU PHL. Previous volunteerism with the VU Crew is not required. Directors on the VU PHL Board are asked to contribute $100 in annual dues towards organization initiatives.

Board terms run from August - August, and if we have board position openings, the application & interview process runs from June-July. It is a short application and we do ask for your most up-to-date resume.

Total commitment for the VU PHL Board is about 15-20 hours / month depending on position.
